In the spotlights

We visited The Green Corner, a company that imports and trades all sorts of seasonal flowers including ranunculus, violet, leaf green and various types of blossoms. In addition, the company specializes in trading ornamental grasses. From June to October Green Corner offers a large selection of the most famous types of ornamental grasses, but also the most exclusive varieties. A large part of these special grasses is grown exclusively for Green Corner. We believe that these ornamental grasses deserve a place in the spotlight.

In the spotlight
So this week we present a wholesaler instead of a breeder; a bit different from what you are used to from us. The cousins Ted Schoneveld and Leon Star represent a group of ornamental grass growers who have a good raison d'être as a result. The two cousins help to improve the cultivation schedule so that products are constantly available. This enables growers to get a better price for their product. Green Corner therefore gives specialist growers a stage in a large playing field.

In the video, Ted Schoneveld talks about the ornamental grasses he brought to the FloraPodium.

Trend picking bouquet
FloraPodium is very pleased with the constant and wide range offered by The Green Corner! Grasses have become extremely popular due to the current trend of hand picked bouquets. The grasses are often included in these bouquets. Not only flowers have a symbolic meaning, you can also find symbolism in the grass species. Grasses stand for generosity, health and togetherness.

In the late summer and autumn all kinds of ornamental grasses flood the market. Because the product is getting more and more known, there are also more and more new species. The Kattapulla for example was a product we had not seen before! We were fascinated by the arachnid long wires on top of the grass. A beautiful and exclusive product!

Miscanthus at Schiphol
We were also pleasantly surprised by the Miscanthus, also known as 'beautiful cane' or 'Elephant grass'. A product that is available in different colors. A nice fact about the Miscanthus is that it has the energetic value of coal. It is grown under the approach routes of Schiphol Airport and keeps the geese away. Geese do not like this crop, which makes it a sustainable way to expel them. The grass is also used to make paper, cardboard, wood and plastic. And recently they have also started producing decorative pots. Naturally, all products made with Elephant grass are biodegradable!
